Hi Everyone, with the suspension of face to face scouting during this current outbreak we have had to find new options for giving members a chance to carry on scouting. The leader team are in communication behind the scenes and have been working together to try and arrange certain items. We have also been working to rearrange cancelled activities and are monitoring to see what else may need rearranging as time goes on.
In the mean time, we have produced some basic badge requirement sheets that are aimed at badges that can be done in and around the home, we have also made up the activities sheets with some simple activities that can be tried at home. This was our first action and members can either send us evidence or save it up till our return to meetings.
Our first Cancelled event was our St Georges Day celebrations, scouts around the coutnry would normally renew there promise annually at this event. Many of our members still managed to renew there promise in their homes, and sent us a short video or photo of them doing their renewal.
We have also run a popular Photo competition for several weeks with different themes (scenery, animals and open and edited), we had some great images from this and every week the scout leader team voted on the winner. I have posted some of the entries we had below.
Photo Competition (just a selection of entries)
The winners will be getting there prizes when we return to meetings, but we had some great photos so thanks to everyone who took part.
After easter we decided to have a break from this and moved to trying some virtual scouting via weekly videos, these are a bit rough as a bit new way of doing things. However each week we aim to provide a video followed by an activitiy to try at home. These can be found via our Scouting at Home page.
Week One was practicing map skills (scales and grid references), with the activity to plan a simple hike
Week Two we looked a pioneering skills, with square lash instructions and a challenge to construct a flag pole out of items at home. Here are some great examples of members at work
Week Three Little bit different this week, Will be released soon
We have plans for the coming weeks, which will vary as we go on.
For now, thankyou to all our members who have been joining in. These are odd times, and we are trying to adapt scouting as much as we can.
We would like to take this opportunity to wish everyone well and hope you and your families stay safe during these difficult times. We look forward to returning to face to face scouting
As of the week that would have been half term, we are moving to live video conferencing to run the evenings with the scouts and explorers. This will enable our members to talk to each other as well as the leader team. We have a program of activities that can be done virtually. All members will be sent information as needed.
