Personal Kit

Each participant will need two kit bags, one with the main luggage and the second is their day bag, for days out etc.

The logistic for summer camps, do require some different arrangements for luggage. Most Summer camps we arrange to have main kit bags dropped off, the day before this helps with times on the day of departure, also help with leaders that must load our main camping kit the day before departure. This will be the same this year, the details are specified on the timeline.

Kit guide can be downloaded from My Summer Camp part of the website.

The Journey

One of the major differences with international travel is obviously the journey, which is an adventure in itself.  Travelling to Switzerland comes with a few options, we prefer to travel by public transport.

This option adds to the adventure, but we are aware that it is a particular part of the week that those back in Colchester, would like updates and to know we have arrived safe. this year we are trialling a new way of keeping everyone up to date.

The Live update system can be accessed through the link below.

We will be departing Colchester by minibuses, we will be departing from the Car park of the C3 Centre, near Abbey fields.

We will be flying from Gatwick airport to Basel, this is a fairly short flight and should have us arrive in Switzerland for Breakfast.

We will be using the great train network using two or three trains to travel across the county to the village of Kandersteg.

The Activities

One of the main great features of international trips is the special activities are members are given the chance to take part in.

We obviously cannot guarantee activities, but we have booked some great experiences and all being well weather wise they should go ahead.  All the activities are carried out to UK safety standards and by qualified instructors.

Many of the activities include travelling as part of the day, with various train journeys and cable car trips.

Some of the activities planned include

  • Glacier Lake Visit

  • Mountain Sled Ride

  • River Rafting Day

  • Rock Climbing Course

  • High Ropes Course

  • Crate Stacking

  • International Campfire

Camp Form

All members will need to have had a participant form completed, we would ask this to be completed by the 20th June.

The form can be found by going to the My Summer camp page of the website

Updates & Communications

The home contact is the primary form of communication should you need to contact the camp, they can contact camp leaders if needed.

Our home contact for this trip will be the groups Akela, who many of you know I am sure. Phone numbers will be handed before departure.

She will have all participant information and be updated at intervals during the journey and week.
